Character Races and their Descriptions...

Humans

Humans are amongst the shortest lived, but most promising of all races. Quick to pick up skills and a capability to adapt to almost any terrain, humans are found almost everywhere in the Lands of Skye. Humans have all the features as listed in the D20 Players Handbook. Human tribes and civilizations have thrived along the plains and forests in the west, the vast tundra in the North, the dense Jungles in the south, and even in the vast deserts in the East.

Finn, Echen, Esten, Ernawn (Dwarves), Geheen (Children of Knowledge), Guss (force, vigor), Gussar, Losra (flame, fire), Moreen, Voora

As a human, you should select a region that you orininate from. Each region defines your characters physical characteristics, languages , additional class skills and feats, and equipment that is available to you, as well as class availability.

  • Aesiran (Pictish)- Known also as Picts and Barbarians, these humans live in the forests and mountains to the northwest of the known lands. All picts have WildernesLore and Knowledge (Nature) as class skills, even if their chosen classes do not normally indicate such.
  • Arlun (Surian)- Golden skin and narrow eyes, these humans live in the northeast in the regions of Suria. The Arlun are proficient in Eastern exotic weapons, but not in the unbalanced weapons of the west, such as longsword and great axe.
  • Dalgobian - These are considered the original people of the western lands of what is now Skye.  This group of people were originally nomads with no known permanent cities, scattered throughout the lands, but now settled in the northern scrub lands after the great war a thousand years ago. Most dalgobian are taller then most other human races (about 6" taller on average), are bronze in skin tone and have dark wavy or curly hair.  Their complexions can be from a lighter coppery color to deep brown and their hair is usually black but also can be dark brown or brown.

The early dalgobian peoples were peaceful nomads and travelled the land seasonally. They lived off the land and held nature in high regard.  Today some of the pureblooded Dalgobian show many characteristics of their ancestors.  They prefer the open outdoors to cities and are known as excellent horsemen.

Modern dalgobian usually dress in loose fitting clothing in reds and browns, bound with a dark sash. Automatic class skills: Riding (horse) and Handle Animal.

  • Anglessey -Encompassing the region of the the kingdoms of Skye, the kingdoms of the Heartlands, and the Kingdoms of the Western Isles, the Anglessey race are a pale skined breed with average human height and build. They have black, brown, blonde, and in some cases even silvery hair, a wide range of eye colors, and are quite comely. Automatic class skills: Diplomacy.
  • Amazonian - Darker in complexion, and varying in height, the Amazonian tribes and kingdoms are far more powerful than many outsiders believe. Automatic class skills: Wilderness Lore.

Pharonic

Millenia ago a god kissed a human to start a bloodline called the Pharonic, whose purpose was to rule over all the Lands of Skye. Many pharonics were killed over the centuries, and now the pharonic line governs only the kingdom of Kesh, as they have always done. The pharonic still are a formidable threat to all who challenge them, but their time of power in the realms has been fading.

Elves

Elves are one of the oldest and most respected of all races. All elves worship Bel as their patron god, due to their fey ancestry. In doing so, they actually worship all the wards of Bel. Elvan and sorcerers are harmonic rather than arcane casters, as they sing their spells. Elves understand the arcane writings, but do to their fey nature have a natural understanding of magic and do not need the arcane studies to cast spells.

  • Vanu - Also known as Woodland Elves, these elves live in the Forest of Tanuvia, and over centuries have grown very close to their woodland creatures. The Vanu have tended and grown woodland creatures to enormous sizes, and their skills as huntsman are renowned. Vanu tend to be shorter then their Sylvan brothers, some are actually small classed, but all are beautiful, with a variety of hair colors, from golden to auburn, to red and pink, with dark eyes, skin tending ro vary from pale to olive colored. Some Vanu female are born to be dryads, their fate chosen by the fey in Twilight. Favored Class: Ranger +2 Wisdom, -2 Constitution.
  • Sylvan- Many elves have mingled with the human races, and their bloodlines are no longer pure. These people are known as Sylvan Elves, and they are the elves listen in the Players handbook. Favored class: Druid.
  • Silver - These elves have been watching the lands of skye for a millenia and collecting works and documents that help interpret propfecy and help forsee instability in the land. Silver Elves are known for their wisdom and knowledge of the realm. With white, almost silver colored hair and grey eyes, silver elves are widely known for their exotic looks and musical voice. Favored Class: Sorcerer
  • Grey - Long ago drawn by the power of the covenants, some elves were corrupted by the infusion of arcane power and are now known as the A'Drui'zzen, enemies of the land. They inhabit some of the eastern and northern kingdoms, and strive for dominance over the other elves.
  • Half-elf - Some elves have direct lineage to both elven and human, and they are known as Half-elves. They follow the rules governing Half-elves in the Players Handbook.
  • Fleece (Tanuvian elf) -Guru, Lupine, Canine... Originating long ago in the eastern forests, driven from their homeland during the first great wars, this race is frequently confused with a ferral race of halflings due to their height, but in fact is more closely related to gnomes or elves. The fleece are tribal in nature, and due to their fey ancestry are quite comely, and over the centuries have developed a symbiotic bond with not only each other, but also with the natural animal mounts around them. Fleece are comely, with fair skin, but short (size Small).
  • Silver Elves - special: Knowledge (Nature) +2, Knowledge (Arcana) +2
  • Forest Elves - Dryads: special: Wilderness Lore +2, Animal Empathy +2

Bre'en (Reptilian humanoid race)

Remanents of a race considered ancient even in the oldest elven records, the Thok'Pa are a reptilian race of great power, residing now primarily in the desert regions in the Old Lands. Little is known of the Thok'Pa, and their ways are foreign to all races.

Slaan(Creators)

The Slaan are an amphibious race that dates back to when time was whole and the Lands were ageless. Slaan never age, but can still die from many ailments. The Slaan enslaved the remainders of the Thok'Pa race millenia ago, but the last of the Slaan were considered destroyed in the great war of the Sundering. The Slaan are evolved from the swamps of Xarxaron.

Dwarves

Steadfast, proud, and slow to change, dwarves are one of the most secretive of races, living in large underground mines known as Sabaks. Once a vast race, many dwarven sabaks lay empty and abandoned because the population has been decimated by war. Some dwarves have been known to live more than 400 years, although a lifespan of 350 is quite respectable for a dwarf. Dwarves have a natural immunity to arcane magics due to the nature of their existence, and as a result they naturally resist any arcane magic. If an arcane spell affects a dwarf, the dwarf must attempt a saving throw regardless whether the spell is beneficial or not. Dwarves are not permitted to be Wizards or Sorcerers in my world, but otherwise their strengths and weaknesses are identical to those in the Players Handbook. Additional feats are available to the dwarf races, detailed in the Skills and Feats section.

Gnomes

Known more commonly throughout the lands as "Tinkers", this is the most technologically advanced race and they rarely share their secrets. Gnomes follow the standard conventions in the Players Handbook. Gnomes tend to live in small communities throughout the known lands, and are very private.

Barrow

Barrows tend to be friendly, compassionate creatures with a passion for life and living. There are many families of barrow, each follows the race rules in the Players Handbook for a Halfling character.Although the term "Halfling" has been used to describe them, it is very derrogatory, and will offend most any barrow. Barrows lifespans are slightly longer than a hu

The Amaunir?

Marask

The Marask are of Lawful alignment, and live in a remote eastern city, cut off from most of civilization. Adjustments are similar to humans, with a +2 Wisdom, +2 Dexterity, but they lose the extra feat and skill points of humans. Marask never use forged weapons of any kind. Additionally, Marask must be lawful. Marask are difficult to play, and unless you feel your character concept really fits in the realm of the Marask, I recommend not taking this class.

Foreign Races and their Descriptions...

  • Korogai - These creations of Ock are truly foul, as they have never been able to birth a female of the species, and therefore must use dark sorcery to mate with other races. However, these creatures cannot naturally intermix with other races, so breeding is more of an arcane rite with an unwilling victim. The Korogai are a very powerful race, born with intelligence and strength, but suffer from a short lifespan, about 45 years. Korogai are the race of Half-Orcs found in the Players Handbook.
  • Orcs - The archwizard Ock toyed with constructing life itself, and these hideous creatures were one of his earlier successes. These foul creatures inhabit the eastern and southern kingdoms, and in many cases have been enslaved by Korogai, a later "success" by the same experimentor. Orcs have a lifespan to short to allow them to fully develop, about 20 years.
  • Slaan - the Slaan are a race of amphibian humanoids evolved from the swamps of Xarxaron.
  • Fey - Known as pisies, the Fey are small winged creatures living in a realm they call Twilight. Many Fey wander into the realm of the Lands of Skye, their purposes unknown to all.
